Mary Swepson

SWEPSON, Mary, 98, went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 17, 2008. She was the oldest daughter of Manuel and Anna Lima, who were originally from the Cape Verde Islands. She was the wife of the late Arnold P. Swepson. Mary will always be loved and missed by her six children, Shirley Swepson, Dolores Smith (deceased), Arnold Swepson, Marylou Young, Walter Swepson and Christopher Swepson; her 33 grandchildren; and numerous great-grand-children; and great-great- grandchildren. There will be a visitation 4-6 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008. Services will take place at 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity Memorial Gardens. 12609 Memorial Drive, New Port Richey, FL 34655

Phillip C. Nobre

NEW BEDFORD — Phillip C. Nobre, 71, of New Bedford, died July 18, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Lucille P. (Lopes) Nobre.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Phillip G. and Julia (Cruz) Nobre, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

Mr. Nobre was formerly employed at Otis Air Force Base and later at Polaroid until retirement. In retirement, he worked as a bus monitor for Trembley Bus Company.

He was a member of the Young Cape Verdean Athletic Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531.

Mr. Nobre served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; 3 daughters, Michelle Mattos and her husband, Paul of Onset, Cheryl Fortes and her husband, Shawn and Darlene Centeio, all of New Bedford; a brother, Richard Nobre and his wife, Betty of Dartmouth; 4 grandchildren, Sabrina, Bryce, Victoria, Elijah; several nieces and nephews.

He was the father-in-law of the late George Centeio and brother of the late Arthur Nobre.

His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His family will receive guests on Monday morning from 9 - 11 AM prior to his service. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.

NEW BEDFORD — Louis M. Ramos, 74, of New Bedford, died Monday, July 14, 2008, unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Estelle (Monge) Ramos; they had been married for 26 years.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel J. and Carolina (Santos) Ramos, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Mr. Ramos was formerly employed as a porter for the Steamship Authority for many years until his retirement. He had previously worked in the Merchant Marine.

He was a member of the Merchant Mariners Club. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He loved being with his family and enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Yvonne Brumfield of Texas; two brothers, Raymond Ramos and his wife Lillian and Ceasar Ramos and his wife Betty, all of New Bedford; three sisters, Mary Soares and Dorothy Gomes, both of New Bedford, and Elizabeth "Betty" Burgo of Dartmouth; two grandchildren, Janay and Michael; his sisters-in-law, Louise Ramos, Patricia Ramos, and Delia Ganeto; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Joseph M. Ramos, Manuel Ramos Jr., John M. Ramos, and Kathleen Ramos Lopes.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial in St. John's Cemetery will be private. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 5-9 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.

ROBINSON, Jacqueline (Angelo) Jacqueline (Angelo) Robinson, 64, of Burlington, passed away on Friday (May 23, 2008) at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born on October 19, 1943 in Dartmouth, MA to the late David DeLuze, Sr. and Emily Adelaide Angelo. She leaves her son and daughter Derek Robinson of Bloomfield and DoriLee Robinson-Knighton of Burlington; four grandchildren D'Angela, Demetri, Cyrus and Justus; three sisters Aisha Allen of Ohio, Patricia Chavis of Unionville and Shari Brown of Georgia and a brother John Almeida of California. She was predeceased by her three children Djuana, Dalena and Darren. A funeral service will be held on Thursday May 29, at 10 a.m. from Bailey Funeral Home 48 Broad St. Plainville for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, Collinsville. Burial will follow in St, Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Family and friends may gather on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. PhotoSILVA, LIDIA M., age 94, formerly of Urban Ave. and Talbot St., died Monday, July 14, 2008, at the Waterview Villa. She was the wife of the late Peter H. Silva.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, on Sept. 15, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Boaventura Canto and Maria (Andrade) Mingola.

She is survived by her children, Robert Silva and Linda Lopes of East Providence and Peter Silva and his wife Linda of Pawtucket; her four grandchildren, Ann-Marie, David, Jennifer, and Robert; and her four great-grandchildren, Holly, Hailey, Darius, and Phoenyx. She was the sister of Madalena Rodrigues of New Bedford and the late Laura Silva, Benvinda Andrade, Bartholomeu C. Mingola and Manuel C. Mingola.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence. The funeral and burial will be private.

NEW BEDFORD — Francisco T. Da Rosa, 89, of South Dartmouth, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. He was the husband of Benvinda (Coelho) Da Rosa.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Manuel and Clara (Tavares) Da Rosa, he had resided in South Dartmouth for 40 years.

Mr. Da Rosa served as Chief Steward in the Merchant Marines during World War II, retiring with over 25 years of service. Following retirement, he worked as Chief Steward aboard Moran Tugboats based out of New York harbor.

He enjoyed gardening and caring for his many animals. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Clara Giannelli and her husband, Edward of South Dartmouth; grandchildren, Jennifer De Mello and her husband, Leonard and Angela Giannelli. He was the brother of the late Armando Da Rosa.

His Funeral will be held on Friday, July 18, 2008, at 8AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9AM in Our Lady of the Assumption, 47 South Sixth St., New Bedford. Visiting hours Thursday 5-8PM. Burial in St. John's Cemetery.

WAREHAM — Virgil J. Veiga, 70, of West Wareham died Saturday, July 12, 2008 unexpectedly from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was the husband of Joyce E. (Silva) Veiga.

Born in Herkimer, NY, he was the son of Annie (Lopes) Veiga of W. Wareham and the late Agneus Veiga.

Mr. Veiga was a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry for many years. He helped build many area highways and tunnels including Boston's Big Dig. Mr. Veiga was a proud member of the I.U.O.E. Local 4, Boston.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Kimberly Magnett of Rochester, Virgil J. Veiga, Jr. of Mesa, AZ, Lisa Davis of Amherst, Shaun Veiga of Wareham, Anne Fleischman-Veiga of Plymouth, Valerie Veiga of Wareham, Joshua Veiga of Wareham, Rory Branion of Middleboro and Brett Monteiro of Wareham; his brothers, Glenn Veiga of Wareham and Maurice "Sooky" Veiga of Plymouth; his sisters, Bernadine Veiga of Attleboro and Pamela Veiga of Wareham and nine grandchildren, Caroline, Teresa, Zachary, Tiffany, Noah, Hillarie, Morgan, Gabrielle, and Molly.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 17th, at the Tabernacle of Praise, 187 Hathaway St., Wareham at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.

Donations in his memory may be made to Oak Grove Cape Verdean Cultural Center, P.O. Box 1100, Onset, MA 02558.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Mr. Andrade was formerly employed as a machinist for Smith & Nephew in Mansfield until his retirement. He previously had worked at Morse Cutting Tools.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Anibal Andrade of Dakar, Senegal, Michael Andrade of Middleboro, David Andrade, Carlos Andrade Jr., and Anthony Andrade, all of New Bedford; a brother, Sinis "Sonny" Andrade of South Carolina; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a niece and many cousins.

He was the father of the late Roberto Andrade.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
