He was 52. Dan worked as the Patriots beat reporter for The Standard-Times for more than a decade, starting during the Drew Bledsoe era and following them through their three Super Bowl championships. He was also a frequent contributor to the Standard-Times’ “Dine Out” column and a news junkie who always seemed to have a tip about what was going on in our SouthCoast communities. Dan had taken off some weight over the past year and was looking quite fit and trim in recent months. He was found unresponsive at the Dartmouth Middle School track this morning, according to Dartmouth police, who said a passerby who administered CPR was unable to revive him. Police do not suspect foul play. “He knew everybody and he knew everything about the Patriots,” said Steve DeCosta, who was sports editor when Dan started writing for The Standard-Times. “The funniest thing about that is that he did it part-time, running up to Foxboro whenever he was able to steal a few minutes away from work or his family. Writing about the Patriots may not have been his real job, but it was his true calling.” He is survived by a wife, Becky, and two children. We’ll miss you, friend.
