Clinton P. Pina  NEW BEDFORD — Clinton Paul Pina, 48, of East Freetown died Monday, May 12, 2008, unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. Born in New Bedford, the son of Evelyn (Barros) Vieira of New Bedford and Clinton P. Pina of Mashpee, he lived in New Bedford most of his life. Mr. Pina was formerly employed as a machine operator for Titleist. Survivors include his mother and father; his life companion, Bonnie Coderre of New Bedford; two sons, Clinton Pina, III and Jamaal Pina, both of New Bedford; four brothers, Steven Pina and John Pina, both of New Bedford, Randall Pina of Dartmouth, and Paul Pina of Osterville; two sisters, Darnell Jones of Rehoboth and Denise Tevenal of Reading, PA; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His Memorial Mass will be held at a day and time to be announced. Daniel DosSantos New Bedford Daniel DosSantos, 63, of New Bedford, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Maria Goncalves. Born March 1, 1945, in Fogo, Cape Verde, he was a son of Mary Barros of Brockton and the late Fortunato Santos. Mr. DosSantos was a retired police officer at the Bridgewater State College for 20 years. He was a communicant and a eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Assumption Church in New Bedford. He was a member of the Bisca Club. He is survived by his children, Lucinda Teixeira, Lucinia Sheffield, Maria Vieira, John Duarte, Daniel Soares and Tim DosSantos. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters. Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Friday at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein/St. Edward Parish, 71 East Main St., Brockton, at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Virginia Chantre  NEW BEDFORD — Virginia (Monteiro) Chantre, 96, of New Bedford died April 28, 2008 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Frank Chantre. Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Francisco and Domingas (DeBarros) Monteiro-Fernandes, she lived in New Bedford most of her life. She enjoyed sewing and playing the piano. Survivors include a son, Thomas Chantre of New Bedford; a daughter, Elaine Moore of Orange County, CA; 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; several cousins. She was the step-daughter of the late Alfred Fernandes. Her Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, May 15th at 10 AM in St. John's Cemetery. (DePina) Pina, 90, of New Bedford died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital. Born in Marion, the daughter of the late Moses and Marion (Miranda) DePina, she lived in New Bedford most of her life. She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses Congregation. Mrs. Pina was formerly employed as a nurse's aide at St. Luke's Hospital for many years until her retirement. Survivors include three children, John Boyd Pina and his wife, Janice of North Providence, RI, Noreen James and her husband, Theodore of New Bedford, and Vanessa Nunes of Stone Mountain, GA; a brother, Joseph DePina of New Bedford; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Anthony DePina, John DePina, Mary DePina, Caroline Monteiro, Jenny Gomes, and Evelyn Andrews. Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 1 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 742 County St., New Bedford. Frances L. Barros  TAUNTON — Frances L. (Duarte) Barros, 70, of Taunton, formerly of Wareham, died April 26, 2008, at home. She was the widow of the late John "Madeger" Barros, Jr., and the daughter of the late James L. & Minnie E. (Correia) Barros. She was born in Nantucket and lived in Wareham for many years before moving to Taunton last year. Mrs. Barros worked for Wal-Mart in Wareham for 15 years before retiring. She loved her family especially her grandchildren. Survivors include 2 sons, Deraman Barros of Taunton and Daniel "Chippy" Barros of MI; 3 daughters, Anita M. Barros, Sherry L. Barros, and Sharyn A. Barros-Galvao, all of New Bedford; a brother, Paul Duarte of Buzzards Bay; a sister, Paula Sherwood of Gloucester; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; many nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, John "BooBoo" Barros and her brothers, Jimmy and Franklin "Spike" Duarte. Corey A. Conward  DARTMOUTH — Corey A. Conward, 25, of Dartmouth died Friday May 2, 2008 unexpectedly at home. Born in New Bedford, the son of Walter A. and Cynthia (Oliver) Conward, he lived in Dartmouth all of his life. Corey was a graduate of Dartmouth High School, Dean College, and Johnson and Wales University, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He participated in football, basketball, and track at Dartmouth High School, and football at Dean College. He was an active member of Phi Kappa Sigma at Johnson and Wales. Survivors include his parents; his daughter Michaela Joyal Conward; his companion, Ashley Joyal; a brother, Michael Conward of Miami, FL; a sister, Kelli Conward of Fall River; his grandfather, Benjamin Oliver of Freetown; three nieces and a nephew; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Maria M. DePina Brockton Maria M. (Lopes) DePina, age 84 years, passed away Tuesday at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the wife of the late Joao DePina. Born in Brava, Cape Verde, she was a daughter of the late Francisco and Rufina (Mendes) Lopes. Mrs. DePina was a homemaker and a resident of Brockton since 1972. She is survived by her children, Alberto DePina, Maria Dos Santos, Manuel Lopes, Carlos Lopes, Antonio DePina and Joao DePina Jr., all of Brockton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, also survive her; as well as three sisters and one brother. A funeral service will be Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 647 Main St., Brockton, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Edith Stein Church, North Main Street, Brockton.
