Margaret M. Lopes NEW BEDFORD — Margaret M. (Rose) Lopes, 87, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008, unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the widow of Gilbert Lopes, Sr., and daughter of the late Antone and Matilda (Gonsalves) Rose.
She was born in Nantucket making New Bedford her home following her graduation from Nantucket High School.
Mrs. Lopes was employed as a secretary in the textile industry later becoming a homemaker after her marriage. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.
She was dedicated to her family and devoted her life to her husband and children. She was much loved by her entire family and will always be remembered for her warmth, kindness and devotion to her church.
Mrs. Lopes was a member of the Catholic Women's Guild and she was a den mother for the Cub Scouts.
She and her husband enjoyed travel, especially cruises. Mrs. Lopes also loved cooking, gardening, furniture refinishing and watching soap operas.
Survivors include 3 sons, Gregory Lopes, Alan Lopes and Gilbert Lopes, all of New Bedford; her daughter-in-law, Claire Lopes of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Domingo Rose and Aguinel Rose and his wife, Benvinda, all of New Bedford; 1 sister, Anna Jacintho of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren, Andrew, Timothy and Mary Lopes and Spencer Saulis; 2 great-grandchildren, Taton Wobasset Lopes and Karyssa Lopes; several cousins in Pawtucket; and several nieces & nephews.

Caroline Monteiro NEW BEDFORD — Caroline (Costa) Monteiro, 91, of New Bedford died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at New Bedford Healthcare Center. She was the wife of the late Manuel D. Monteiro.
Born in Lakeville, the daughter of the late Jack and Guilhermina L. (Martin) Costa, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include four daughters, Nancy Miranda and Jane DeBurgo, both of Taunton, Lorraine Craig and Priscilla Monteiro, both of New Bedford; a brother, Tony Costa of Lakeville; three sisters, Pauline Costa, Eileen Rozario, and Louise Lima, all of New Bedford; six children; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Michael A. Monteiro, and sister of the John Costa and Mary Cosmos.
Her Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 9 AM at the International Church of the Nazarene. Visiting hours Thursday 5-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
