Maria Leca

NEW BEDFORD — Maria "Lili" (di Linzinho) (Pinheiro) Leca, 99, of Fairhaven, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital, New Bedford after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Aleixo Leca.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, one of 10 children of the late Luis Jose Pinheiro and Henriqueta (Azevedo) Pinheiro, she settled in Fairhaven 35 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fairhaven.

Mrs. Leca was formerly employed as a stitcher at Calvin Clothing in New Bedford. She enjoyed crocheting and growing flowers in her garden.

She is survived by three daughters, Madalena Yvonne Lopes and her husband, John of New Bedford and Diva P. Alves and her husband, Edgar and Marlise Pereira and her husband, Adelmo, all of Fairhaven; a sister Jovina Araujo of East Providence, RI; two grandchildren, Anniette and Emmanuel Alves, both of Fairhaven; and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be Saturday at 8:00 AM from the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, New Bedford. Calling hours are Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
