Richard S. Monteiro WAREHAM — Richard S. Monteiro, 53, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 at the Tobey Hospital in Wareham unexpectedly. He was the son of the late Daniel D. & Rita J. (Barboza) Monteiro.
Born in Brockton, Mr. Monteiro was raised in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1973. A previous resident of Haverhill, he moved to Wareham during the 1970's.
Mr. Monteiro was previously employed by the Town of Wareham Municipal Maintenance Dept. and then was a short order cook for various restaurants in Wareham including Wendy's and Friendly's.
An avid sports enthusiast, Mr. Monteiro excelled in baseball and basketball as well as many other sports.
He is survived by two sons, Richard D. Monteiro, and Steven A. Monteiro both of Wareham; three step-children, Carlos Rivera, Miguel Rivera and Belinda Schmeider all of FL; his brothers and sisters, Barbara Smith and husband Nate of Plymouth, Daniel D. (Buddy) Monteiro Jr. and wife Felicita of New Bedford, Kathy Andrews and husband Raymond of E. Wareham, David DeBarros and wife Laurie of Onset, Joseph Delori of FL, Jane Barboza and Charlene Barboza both of Worcester and Roberta Fernandes of Canada; his step-mother, Beatrice Monteiro of Hyannis; his beloved cousin, Vic Barboza of FL. Also survived by his Goddaughters, Angela Smith and Tahisha Lopes, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his lifelong friends, Christine and Gilbert Lopes. He was predeceased by his son, the late Christopher Tribou and two brothers, the late Chaz Barboza and Peter DeBarros.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham on Sat., Sept. 13 from 1-4 PM. Interment will be in Agawam Cemetery at a later date.
