Belmira P. Tavares NEW BEDFORD — Belmira P. (Pina) Tavares, 89, of New Bedford died September 6, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph M. Tavares.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Luis and Maria (Pina) Pina, she has lived in New Bedford since 1966.
Mrs. Tavares was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
She was formerly employed by Deerfield Manufacturing for many years until retirement.
Mrs. Tavares enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Fernando Lobo of New Bedford; a daughter, Deolinda Lobo of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Eliza "Lala" Azevedo and Mariana Neves both of New Bedford; an aunt, Clarinda Barros of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Alice Goncalves.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 PM.
