NEW BEDFORD — Virginia (Monteiro) Chantre, 96, of New Bedford died April 28, 2008 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Frank Chantre.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Francisco and Domingas (DeBarros) Monteiro-Fernandes, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
